I knew the day was not going to go well when my wireless router crapped out before noon. Why today, after years of flawless service? It was the Microsoft Curse showing up in advance. Shortly after, my Windows 7 upgrade from Amazon was delivered by UPS as promised.
I called my Internet service provider and they made me go through all the standard bullshit, like unplugging and re-plugging in my router and modem. Then I hard-wired my Dell laptop directly to the modem and, surprise, everything worked fine. Well – no Pandora on my iPod Touch and no TIVO updates for a while. I’m just going to trash the router and buy a new one (faster duel N-band?) rather than talk to some clueless guy from India to figure out what went wrong.
Alright, so finally the sun is going down and I want to do my Windows 7 Upgrade Event – even though I’m, sadly, here all alone in my house. I move gigabytes off the hard drive, run every possible fix and check that I could and was ready for the big event. I decided to photograph that Event, and as I wanted a clean photo, I unplugged the computer.
The first error I get during the upgrade process is Windows 7 would like to check for the latest updates before installing. Well, I packed away all my really long Ethernet cables and the wireless router crapped out on me because of the Microsoft Curse, so I said “no” – just install the damn upgrade. After all this is the FIRST *U*K*N* DAY of the upgrade is available, so why would there be any updates?

Then Windows upgrade tells me that battery power is not good enough, even though I have two hours of battery power. OK, so I plugged in the power cord as MS demanded and proceed, and waited, waited and waited. I already checked for compatibility – no problem, so I just went forward, and waited, waited, waited.
First error message – if I really want to upgrade I have to reboot my computer (but was give no option to do so).
Then more – I have to deauthorize iTunes 9 and will loose a host of other features. Well, given 99% of all new music is crap anyway, loosing iTunes for a time is not big deal. But deautorizing it – why? I have messages posted to both Apple and MS Win 7 forums for a fix.
By this time, that bottle of wine I opened for this Upgrade Event caught my attention. No upgrade tonight Microsoft – but you got my $219 – you bastards. That is it – I’m buying a Mac!
