Haze is natural in the Grand Canyon and I would guess about 10 billion photographs have been taken of it, with only the lucky few or diligent pros to see this place without it. After an exhilarating “Imperial” helicopter ride, which was so much fun but rendered poor photos for so many reasons, we entered the park, and saw what millions had seen before.
In spite of the haze, the cloud formations were perfect and the sun was setting. But alas, I was not alone, but only traveling as a tourist/tour guide. Had I been alone, I would have stayed well past sunset, as this was a rare day in the park.
No matter, as this experience simply told me that I need to return here in the vast West, and explore on my own some day again. All the HDR that I captured was so rushed and ill-planned. Yet I was pleased with the results as a novice.
This was only a day trip and we needed to get back to Las Vegas at some reasonable hour as Death Valley was planned for the next day. We did have a great sunset heading back to Williams, with both lighting show in distinctly formed thunder clouds, and a rainbow, which I failed to capture, as I didn’t stop (at once) when we saw it.
By 11 pm we were back in Las Vegas and had amazing Tapas at a place a hop away from the hotel. The next morning we made a final trip to a shopping outlet and then the short drive to Death Valley for an amazing night at the Furnace Creek Ranch.
I’m am now home (just arrived) in Piney Point, returning again to the ordinary life. Yet more is coming on this awesome little adventure! While I rest & recover, one more photo follows.
